Stroke a White Lion and Explore the Wonder Caves

Mission 43- Stroke a White Lion and Explore the Wonder Caves

  • Tip1#
  • As tame as some of these creatures can become, one needs to always remember that they’re wild and it’s a risk to enter into their comfort zones or habitat at all times.

  • Tip2#
  • The animal crèche is probably one of the safest choices to visit when wanting to interact with any wild animals but never underestimate their size... you can still get a good chunk taken out of you! I would strongly advise (nice way of you better or else) to always have a skilled game ranger at hand controlling the situation.

  • Tip3#
  • When stroking any lion cub, always stroke firm and hard otherwise they might mistake you for being a fly, not something you want to be in this situation.

  • Tip4#
  • When visiting any reserve, always keep an eye out for a car’s non-verbal behaviour. If a car is standing still or lots of cars are gathering together then there is potentially something to be seen!

  • Tip5#
  • NEVER hang out of windows or sunroofs at any reserve especially when watching a predator feed. There is a reason why there are so many attacks and it’s mainly because people think they are immortal against these wild animals. The lions don’t all come running for food, they take a slow walk and just when you think they’re in front of you, one can come up behind you! Just letting you know... the animals are indeed real, they aren’t some computerized object that will purr and give you a nice big hug if you go near them.

  • Tip6#
  • Lion, Cheetah and Wild Dog feeds are on a Sat, Sun and Public Holidays at 1.30pm.

  • Tip7#
  • There is an amazing picnic spot near the animal crèche so if you are planning to spend a day at the reserve, pack yourself some picnic lunch.

  • Tip8#
  • NEVER remove or touch any cave formations. They’ve been there for a very long time and if you remove or touch the formations, they may never grow back again! You will be a cave hurter!

  • Tip9#
  • When visiting the Wonder Caves just take note that there is a long flight of steep stairs to get in and out of the cave.

  • Tip10#
  • When visiting the Wonder Caves just take note that there a long flight of steep stairs to get in and out of the cave before you get to the lift!

  • Fact1#
  • The ‘Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve’ is one of Johannesburg's Big 5 Tourist Destinations and reaches tops on my list of ‘must see places’. This privately owned reserve is situated in the ‘Cradle of Humankind’ and features some endangered and rare species which you are almost guaranteed to view. If you visit at the right time, you can even get a chance to catch animals such as lion and cheetah feed.

  • Fact2#
  • White Lions have been mistaken as albinos but they’re in fact the result of a recessive gene and originated from the Timbavati region of South Africa. There are an estimated 300 White Lions in the world.
